Calcium is a “high-quality nutrient” that can improve yield and quality and extend shelf life. Calcium needs to be supplemented throughout the growth cycle of crops to maintain sufficient levels in plant tissues and ensure healthy development of crops.
Calcium in plants is essential for the construction of cell walls. Insufficient calcium supply will hinder the realization of this important function, leading to abnormal growth and deformation of root tips, young leaves and bud tips. In addition, weaker cells are more vulnerable to biological attack. Calcium is also involved in enzymatic reactions and cellular interaction processes.
The hazards of calcium deficiency: Calcium usually manifests as partial decay of the tissue, and consequently inhibits growth. Typical symptoms include leaf deformation, leaf tip burns, and root tip burns. Calcium deficiency will also reduce the quality of the harvest and shorten the shelf life.
