Why Cucumbers Turn Bitterjpg-min

Bitterness in cucumbers is one of the most common complaints during summer, especially in extreme heat. This bitterness is caused by a compound called cucurbitacin, which increases under stress conditions such as drought, heat, or irregular feeding.

To prevent bitter cucumbers:
- Maintain consistent soil moisture — use mulch to reduce evaporation.
- Apply potassium-rich fertilizers like 0-0-50 or 15-5-35 + TE to support fruit development.
- Avoid excessive nitrogen once flowering begins.

Over-irrigation can also lead to inconsistent water uptake and trigger stress, so water deeply and less frequently. Cucumbers in containers are even more vulnerable—use light-colored pots and ensure proper drainage. Adding seaweed extract helps regulate plant hormones and promotes healthy flowering.

Harvesting at the right time is critical. Pick cucumbers young and regularly to prevent the buildup of bitterness and to encourage more fruiting. Track the number of days after pollination—most varieties are ready within 8–10 days. With balanced nutrition, water control, and timely harvest, you’ll enjoy sweet, crisp cucumbers even in the hottest months.
